Dubble Bubble Assorted 1" / 25 mm gumballs Dubble Bubble was invented in 1928 by Walter E. Diemer—an accountant at Fleer Company. The company founder, Frank Fleer in 1906, attempted to create a chewing gum which he called Blibber Blubber. The resulting product was very sticky and broke easily and was a commercial failure. Mr. Diemer, an accountant who worked at Fleer liked to experiment in his spare time. In doing so, he stumbled upon a gum recipe that was unique. It proved to be less sticky than the initial versions and was easier to chew. This original gum was pink in color because the factory only had pink food coloring available. It is also why most bubble gum is pink today. The concoction looked promising so they wrapped one hundred pieces and test marketed it in a local candy store, offering the gum for one cent per piece; the gum sold-out on the first day. The company began marketing the gum as "Dubble Bubble" and sales surpassed $1.5 million in the first year. The original gum featured a color comic strip, known as the Fleer Funnies, that was included with the gum. The featured characters, ‘Dub and Bub’, were introduced in 1930 but were later replaced by the iconic Pud and his pals in 1950. During World War II, Dubble Bubble was distributed to the military. Sugar and latex became scarce due to the war and bubble gum manufacturing was halted in 1942. In 1951 Fleer resumed manufacturing of Dubble Bubble and the popularity of its gum grew steadily. Over time, Fleer extended its reach by adding new flavors, new formats like ball gum and expanded distribution of its products overseas. In 1998, Concord Confections purchased Fleer and along with it the classic icon of American pop culture, the famous "Crown and Oval" Dubble Bubble logo. Overnight the "Dubble Bubble" brand becomes Concord’s prized brand and the new owner expands distribution of the gum to 60 countries worldwide. And in August of 2004, Tootsie Roll acquired Concord Confections to expand its presence in the bubble gum category. Today, the company, through Tootsie continues to grow and expand its reach globally. Dubble Bubble gumballs continue to be a popular favorite among young and old alike. Many people frequently misspell the trademark name as "Double" rather than "Dubble" when searching for gumballs online.

You may consider also attaching your business card or apply a sticker to your Candy Vending machine which may simply say:
" For Service Call:" this may be helpful to new employees of your location to alert you when your candy supply is getting low. This can also be a great benefit when a location changes managers or owners- the new staff may not know who to contact for future servicing. Placing your business information on your Bulk Candy Machine is great advertising for your Vending Business.
From time to time I get asked which type of paint we use on our bright yellow chassis’ on our bulk candy vending machines. We actually use a Powder Coating on our machines. Powder Coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint & a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder & filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically & is then cured under heat to allow it to flow & form a ‘skin’. This is used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint.
Although powder coating is a tougher finish does not mean that occasionally over time it won’t get scratched. I had a customer that searched for a solution to touch up scratches & found that the Avon ‘Sunshine’ nail polish was the closest match for the job. The nail polish works great in touching up small scratches on his vending machines. It is small enough to carry into the location & is safer to use in a location than spray paint. Nail polish dries quicker than paint and is splendid for small touch ups. So go rummage through your teenage daughter’s nail polish bin for ‘Sunshine’ Nail Polish from Avon. This may just be what you're looking for to keep your Bulk Candy Vending Machines looking like new!

Summer has begun! With ‘Summer’ sometimes brings those pesky ants looking to satisfy their sugar cravings. Here is a great trick to keep those crawly creatures at bay. Try wiping a layer of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly or Crisco at the top of your Stand Pipe just out of sight of your customers on your Bulk Candy Machines. Even though the ants are determined to get your sugary delights, they won’t crawl through the Vaseline Petroleum Jelly or Crisco to get it. Don’t let ants eat up your profits!

Vending is the perfect cash business. There are no bad checks, credit risks, accounts receivables or other collection problems. Vending is the largest cash business in the world. When your machines are placed correctly they are paid for in a matter of months, not several years like most businesses. The Vending industry is now considered as one of the most lucrative opportunities in America.
There's not a lot you can do about the national economy but there is a lot you can do about your personal economy .
Bulk Vending refers to the sale of unsorted confections, nuts, gumballs, toys & novelties (in capsules) selected at random by the customer & dispensed generally through non-electrically operated vending machines.
Some bulk vendors operate electrically operated vending machines which consist of animated novelty & toy vending machines that dispense capsules containing small toys & novelties & kinetic (motion) gumball machines. Unique features of bulk vending are that the machines tend to be smaller & less expensive. Health & safety concerns are minimal. Bulk vending machines also tend to vend products for .50 cents or less.
The Vending industry is a huge multi-billion dollar industry. Bulk vending represents less than 1% of the total vending industry & is distinct & unique from other electrically operated vending machines.
If your bulk candy machines are in hot and humid locations & you find that the candy is sticking together- try this helpful tip:
Spray a large plastic spoon with an unflavored, non-stick cooking spray then stir the candy around. This can prevent the pieces of candy from sticking together, but it is important not to use too much cooking spray, or the candy will seem greasy. Runts are one candy that holds up well to the summer’s heat & humidity. Runts is a hard fruity candy made by Nestle & sold under their famous Willy Wonka Candy Company brand name.

Researchers at the University of Cambridge analyzed 7 studies that focused on the effect of chocolate consumption on health of 114,000 participants. Their results suggest there is a beneficial connection between chocolate consumption and cardiovascular disease. When servicing your Bulk Candy Vending Machines- sometimes it's necessary to replace Chute Covers [doors] or Coin Mechanisms. Here are some helpful tips in doing so.
Tools Needed:
Small Phillip’s Screw Driver [magnetic screw drivers works great!]
Steps
1. Remove Lid, Canisters, Cross Member & Coin Boxes.
2. Looking at the back of the Coin Mechanism [inside the machine] you will see 5 Screws
a. Screws #1 thru #4 are in the black back plate on the Coin Mechanism
b. Screw #5 goes through the metal Chassis into the Coin Mechanism [smallest of the five]
c. Turn it counter clockwise until it comes completely out of the Coin Mechanism & Chassis.
*Screw #5 is the only screw that needs to be Removed*
NOTE: The new coin mechanisms have 6 screws; 4 through the back plate, 1 into the spider gear and 1 through the chassis.
3. Hold the chute door open [if applicable] lift the Coin Mechanism straight up [noting how the grooves on the side of the Coin Mechanism fit over the chassis. This will be important when you replace the Coin Mechanism & door]. This removes the door & the Coin Mechanism from the machine.
4. Looking at the back of the Coin Mechanism, you will see 2 Tabs extending down from the Coin Mechanism; one side has an area that is notched. This notch is where the springs on the chute doors go.
5. Looking at the front of the chute door [textured side] rotate the spring until the long straight arm of the spring is resting on the door.
6. Turn the chute door over & place it into the Tabs as noted in step 4.
7. With the door in the Tabs, swing the door to the front of the Coin Mechanism [up towards the handle] hold it in this position & slide the Coin Mechanism back into the Chassis of the machine. Once you have it in place, check to make sure the portion of the spring with the 90⁰ bend is hooked over the Chassis.
8. Square the back of the Coin Mechanism with the opening in the Chassis & reinstall the screw [#5] removed in step 2C. You will need to apply pressure to the front of the Coin Mechanism to allow the screw to thread into the Coin Mechanism.
9. Reinstall Coin Boxes, Cross Member, Canisters & Lid.
Face it- you're doomed! Today is Friday the 13th- the unluckiest day on the calendar- so try not to crash your car, fall down a flight of stairs, set yourself on fire or do anything else that might compromise your well-being. And for goodness sake, stay away from men in hockey masks!
Laundromats are great places for a bulk candy machine. While people are sitting and waiting for their laundry to finish they could be enjoying a snack or two from your candy machine. Given that most washers and dryers in laundromats operate on coins- customers will always have quarters in their pockets. Most women and men will bring their kids along with them to the laundromat- your candy machine is a perfect way to keep kids busy and happy during their wait.

Consider selling a salty snack as one of your selections. Not everyone likes sweets. If you are looking for a clean and healthy source of protein for your customers; you may wish to consider the little miraculous food item known as the Nut!
If you are having a tough time in this economy with making a profit with your vending route because of the price of candy going up and the cost of fuel on the rise-it might be time to consider switching to $.50¢ coin mechanisms. Having a 4-select or 8-select gives you an option to choose how much you want to charge for each selection of candy or nuts you offer. We have both $.25 and $.50 coin mechanisms available for purchase.
Show Your Children How to Own and Operate Their Own Business!
Make sure every time you service your machine to run a few coins through each selection to taste the candy yourself. If the candy tastes somewhat or completely stale then you may have to consider replacing the canister with fresh candy. Don’t wait for the stale candy to sellout; doing so can be more costly due to losing repeat customers. Keep in mind the candy at the top will be fresher than those candies at the bottom of the canister. If you absolutely must sell some of the stale candy before swapping it, then maybe mix new candy with the old, better that a vend isn’t completely stale compared to somewhat stale. Just remember, would you be happy as a customer if you got stale candy?

Looking for a quick way to add your cash from your vending machines? A quick way to count quarters is to throw them on to a digital scale. Each quarter weights 0.2 ounces. Ten Dollars worth of quarters is Eight Ounces. So every Eight Ounces is a roll of quarters [$10]. So you can quickly throw all the quarters from your bulk candy machine on to the scale then divide by 2 and you will have determined how many quarters you have. Once you determined how many quarters you have, multiply by .25 and it will calculate how many dollars you have made.

I can't believe it is coming up on one year since I began working here at U-Turn. TIme Flies when you're having fun!
